On May 27, 2015, a jury in Delaware ordered Boston Scientific to pay $100 million to Deborah Barba due to injuries she suffered from a transvaginal mesh device manufactured by the company. Jurors awarded Ms. Barba $25 million in compensatory damages and $75 million in punitive damages.

The verdict is the sixth so far against Boston Scientific in a transvaginal mesh case, and comes one month after the company announced it had reached agreements to pay roughly $119 million to resolve 2,970 transvaginal mesh cases.

Boston Scientific is one of seven major manufacturers that collectively face an estimated 100,000 lawsuits over transvaginal mesh devices in federal and state courts in the U.S. Approximately, 25,000 claims have been filed against Boston Scientific. Other major defendants include American Medical Systems, C.R. Bard, and Johnson & Johnson.
